# OmniSocials Automations

> Automations do the replies and reposts you would otherwise do by hand. Comment to DM sends your link in an Instagram DM to everyone who comments a keyword, sends it in a DM or replies it to a story. Repost automations copy your posts from one platform to another on your schedule.

This is the machine-readable version of [omnisocials.com/automations](https://omnisocials.com/automations), maintained for AI agents. Start a 14-day free trial at [app.omnisocials.com/signup](https://app.omnisocials.com/signup).

Automations used to be called Workflows (renamed in October 2026). Review steps before a post publishes are approval workflows, a different feature, see [collaboration and approvals](https://omnisocials.com/collaboration.md).

## Comment to DM (Instagram)

1. **Pick the triggers.** Comments on a post or reel, keywords in a DM to the account, replies to a story, or any mix of the three.
2. **Pick the post** (comment trigger only): one specific post or reel (also one published outside OmniSocials), your next post (it starts when that post is live), or every post including older ones. One post can have one comment automation.
3. **Add the keywords.** Up to 20. Match a whole word (default, "Guide!" matches, "guides" does not), part of a word, or any comment or message.
4. **Write the DM.** Plain text, up to 1,000 characters. A link in the text shows as a link in Instagram.
5. **Optionally reply under the comment.** Up to 10 public replies of up to 300 characters, one picked at random per comment.
6. **Optionally set limits.** Stop after a number of DMs, or on an end date. A finished automation shows as Completed.

Rules it follows:

- One DM per person per automation. A second comment from the same person is skipped ("Already got this DM").
- A comment gets its DM as an Instagram private reply, which Instagram allows once per comment and only within 7 days of the comment. DM and story-reply triggers answer inside the conversation the person opened.
- Up to 180 DMs an hour. Above that, matches wait for the next hour.
- A post-specific automation wins over an "every post" one, so a comment never gets two DMs.

Every match lands in the automation's activity log: who it was, what they wrote, and whether the DM was sent, skipped (with the reason) or failed (with Instagram's error). When someone answers the DM, the conversation shows up in the [Social Inbox](https://omnisocials.com/inbox.md).

Needs an Instagram professional account (Business or Creator) connected to the workspace.

### For agents and developers

- **MCP tools**: `list_automations`, `get_automation`, `create_automation`, `update_automation` (also pauses and resumes), `delete_automation`, `get_automation_activity`. `create_post` and `update_post` also take `comment_dm_automation` to attach one to a post. Setup: [omnisocials.com/mcp.md](https://omnisocials.com/mcp.md).
- **REST API**: `GET /v1/automations`, `POST /v1/automations`, `GET /v1/automations/:id`, `PATCH /v1/automations/:id`, `DELETE /v1/automations/:id`, `GET /v1/automations/:id/events` (filter by outcome: sent, skipped, failed, pending). The API key needs the Automations scope (`automations:read`, `automations:write`). Docs: [docs.omnisocials.com/automations](https://docs.omnisocials.com/automations).
- **CLI**: `omnisocials automations:list`, `automations:get`, `automations:create --dm "…" --keywords guide --scope next_post`, `automations:update <id> --pause | --resume`, `automations:delete`, `automations:events <id>`.
- **SDKs**: an `automations` resource in the Node, Python, Go, Ruby, PHP, Java, .NET and Rust SDKs.
- There are no webhook events for automations.

## Repost automations

1. **Pick a source and a destination.** For example Instagram to TikTok, or Facebook to Bluesky. One automation per source and destination pair.
2. **Pick which posts.** Posts you already published (with an optional date range), new posts from now on, or both.
3. **Pick the media types.** Only the types you select are reposted.
4. **Pick the schedule.** One post at a set time on the days you choose, in your time zone, oldest or newest first. For new posts there is also "right after I post", within about 15 minutes.
5. **OmniSocials runs it in the background.** Media is downloaded from the source and queued. Each automation shows how many posts are posted and how many are waiting.

New posts on the source are checked about every 15 minutes. Posts you publish through OmniSocials are left out, so nothing is posted twice.

**Sources (8):** Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, Pinterest, and LinkedIn Page.

**Destinations (11):** Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, Pinterest, LinkedIn Profile, LinkedIn Page, and Telegram. A Pinterest destination needs a board. YouTube is not a destination. Telegram is a destination only: a bot cannot read a chat's history.

| Source | What can be imported |
| --- | --- |
| Instagram | Reels, videos, images, carousels |
| Facebook | Videos (including reels), photos, albums, text posts, link shares |
| TikTok | Cover images of your videos. Video import is coming soon. |
| Threads | Images, videos, carousels, text posts |
| Bluesky | Images, text posts, link posts |
| Mastodon | Images, videos, multi-image posts, text posts |
| Pinterest | Image pins (video pins are not supported) |
| LinkedIn Page | Images, videos, multi-image posts, text posts, link shares |

Videos and Reels are not reposted to X. Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest need a photo or video, so text and link posts are not reposted there.

- **Pause and resume**: a paused repost automation keeps its queue.
- **Check for new posts**: pull the latest posts from the source on demand.
- **Across workspaces**: the source account can sit in another workspace of the same organization, for example to repost from one client brand to another.
- Repost automations are set up in the dashboard. There is no API endpoint, MCP tool or CLI command for them. For an agent that wants the same content on several platforms, the direct route is one `create_post` call with several accounts. See [docs.omnisocials.com/cross-posting](https://docs.omnisocials.com/cross-posting).

## Pricing

Automations are included in every plan. OmniSocials is $10 per seat (a workspace, team member or client) per month billed annually ($12 billed monthly), every feature included, with a 14-day free trial. Details: [omnisocials.com/pricing.md](https://omnisocials.com/pricing.md)
