Weekday evenings, about 6 to 9 PM in your audience's local time, is where the studies overlap most. Only 3 studies with their own Bluesky data exist, and they disagree on the day. Treat the map as a starting point.

## The short answer: Post on weekday evenings, 6 to 9 PM in your audience's local time.

Only 3 studies with their own Bluesky data exist, and they disagree. Buffer's 3 million posts favor weekends, SocialPilot's 1 million favor weekday mornings, and Postpone favors weekday late mornings. The slot they share most is the weekday evening, about 6 to 9 PM. Overnight, midnight to 6 AM, is the time to avoid. On the combined map Friday edges ahead by a small margin, though no study calls it the best day.

Bluesky itself gives no clock time. Its Following feed shows posts by people you follow "in the order they posted them", so a post lands in front of whoever is scrolling then. A fourth study, BskySuite's 27,755 posts, found that inside a single account the hour made no measurable difference. Use the map as a start, then test it on your own posts.

- **Best window**: 6 to 9 PM (Weekdays, your audience's local time)
- **Best day**: Disputed (Saturday for Buffer, Wednesday for SocialPilot and Postpone)
- **Worst time**: 12 to 6 AM (Every day; SocialPilot's dead zone runs to 7 AM)

## Where 3 studies agree, by day and time of day

### Where 3 studies agree

Strongest slot: Friday, 6-9 PM. Best day: Friday. Weakest day: Thursday. Your audience's local time (SocialPilot does not state its basis). A higher score means more studies name that slot. Scores run from 0 to 100.

Windows compiled from Buffer, SocialPilot and Postpone, published August to October 2026. With 3 studies, one study moves a cell a lot. See the sources below.

## What each study found. Few studies, and they point different ways.

| Study | Sample | Best times | Best days | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Buffer, Aug 2026 | 3M+ posts | Weekdays 6-9 PM, Sat 5 PM | Sat, Sun | Weekdays 10 AM-1 PM, Thursday |
| SocialPilot, Aug 2026 | 1M+ posts, 5,000 accounts | 9-11 AM and 6-8 PM, Wed 9-10 AM | Tue, Wed | 12-7 AM |
| Postpone, Oct 2026 | Not published, up to 100 posts per account | 10 AM-12 PM | Wed, Fri, Tue | Sat, Sun |
| BskySuite, Sep 2026 (not in the map) | 27,755 posts, 491 accounts | None inside an account | None | Names none |

BskySuite compared quiet and busy hours inside the same 138 accounts and found a median ratio of 1.00x, so it casts no votes. Metricool, Hopper HQ, RecurPost and Social Champ publish times without a described dataset, so they are left out.

## Why the hour matters on Bluesky. It depends on the feed.

| Feed | How it orders posts | What timing does |
|---|---|---|
| Following | Posts by people you follow, newest first | A post sits on top until newer ones push it down |
| Discover | Bluesky's own algorithm | Can show posts to non-followers; you can opt out since Aug 2026 |
| Custom feeds | Each feed's own rules | Varies: some are chronological, some rank by likes |

From Bluesky's own posts (May 2024, August 2026). Bluesky publishes no ranking factors for Discover.

## What changed for timing. Chronological by default, more control over Discover.

- **Aug 2026: Opt out of Discover** You can now keep your posts from being shown to non-followers in the Discover feed. Bluesky: "Sometimes you're just posting for your followers." (https://bsky.app/profile/bsky.app/post/3mu3jzayuys2k)
- **Jan 2026: A dedicated Discover team** Bluesky said "The Discover feed has come a long way, but there's more to do" and that posters should find the right audience more easily. (https://bsky.social/about/blog/01-26-2026-whats-next-at-bluesky)
- **May 2024: Any feed can be the default** Bluesky described Following as "posts by people you follow, in the order they posted them" and let users make another feed their home feed. (https://bsky.app/profile/bsky.app/post/3ksmub3wvpv2p)

## Find your own best time. The map is a start, your posts decide.

1. **Plan in your audience's time zone** Buffer and Postpone use local time. If most followers live in New York, plan in Eastern Time, wherever you are.
2. **Start with weekday evenings** 6 to 9 PM is the one window two of the three studies share on most days. Put your most important posts there first.
3. **Test one weekend slot** Buffer's top slot is Saturday at 5 PM, while Postpone found weekends about 24% weaker than Wednesday. Your audience breaks the tie.
4. **Skip the small hours** The Following feed is newest first. A post at 3 AM sits under hours of newer posts by the time most followers open the app.
5. **Compare slots for two to three weeks** Post similar content at two times and compare likes, reposts and replies. One week is too noisy to call.
6. **Do not chase the minute** BskySuite found no hourly effect inside the same account. A steady topic and replies to people matter more than the exact hour.

## Sources and method

Only three studies publish Bluesky timing data from their own sample with a stated size or method: Buffer, SocialPilot and Postpone, published August to October 2026. Each gets one vote per day and three-hour block: plus one when it names the block as a best time, minus one when it names it, or the whole day, as one to avoid. A window votes for every block it overlaps. The votes are scaled from 0 to 100, so the map shows where the studies agree, not an engagement rate. With so few studies, treat it as a rough guide. BskySuite names no best time, so it casts no votes; Metricool, Hopper HQ, RecurPost and Social Champ give times without a described dataset and are left out.

## FAQ

### What is the best time to post on Bluesky?

Weekday evenings, about 6 to 9 PM in your audience's local time. It is the window the three Bluesky studies overlap on most, though they disagree on the best day. Test it against your own posts.

### What time is Bluesky most active?

Bluesky publishes no activity data. Engagement studies point to weekday evenings, 6 to 9 PM local time, and Buffer also found weekend afternoons strong, with Saturday at 5 PM its top slot.

### What are peak posting hours on Bluesky?

6 to 9 PM on weekdays, local time, is the slot most studies name. SocialPilot and Postpone add weekday mornings, roughly 9 AM to 12 PM, which Buffer calls the quietest stretch.

### What is the best day to post on Bluesky?

The studies disagree. Buffer found Saturday best, then Sunday. SocialPilot names Tuesday and Wednesday, and Postpone Wednesday, Friday and Tuesday. On the combined map, Friday edges ahead by a small margin.

### What is the worst time to post on Bluesky?

Overnight. SocialPilot calls midnight to 7 AM a dead zone every day. Buffer adds weekday late mornings, about 10 AM to 1 PM, and names Thursday its quietest day.

### Is the Bluesky feed chronological?

The Following feed is: it shows posts by people you follow in the order they posted them. Discover and custom feeds use their own rules, and you can make any feed your home feed.

### Does posting time matter on Bluesky?

Some. On the chronological Following feed, a post reaches whoever is scrolling soon after. But BskySuite found no hourly effect inside the same account, so a steady topic matters more than the minute.

### Which time zone should I use?

Your audience's. Buffer adjusts its times to each audience's local time, and Postpone uses the poster's own time zone. If your followers are spread out, use the zone where most of them live.

### How does OmniSocials suggest a time to post?

It looks at your workspace's own Bluesky posts, weighted toward recent ones, and shows the suggestion when you schedule. Analytics has a day-by-hour heatmap. Until 15 posts are analyzed, it shows labelled industry defaults.
