Checked: October 17, 2026

Weekday mornings, about 9 AM to noon in your audience's local time. That is where 6 studies from 2025 and 2026 agree most. Thursday is the strongest day, Saturday the weakest.

## The short answer: Post on weekday mornings, 9 AM to noon local time.

Six engagement studies published between November 2025 and August 2026 disagree on the hour: Buffer's top hour is 9 AM, Sprout Social's band runs 12 to 6 PM, and Social Champ's best is Sunday 9 AM. The widest agreement is weekday mornings, roughly 9 AM to noon in your audience's local time, with Tuesday to Thursday the best days. Late evening and Saturday score lowest.

X itself gives no clock time. Its open-source ranking code drops posts older than 48 hours from the For You feed, so a post has about two days to find its audience. Use the map above as a start, then test it against your own numbers.

- **Best days**: Tuesday to Thursday (Thursday tops the map)
- **Best time**: 9 AM to noon (Weekdays, your audience's local time)
- **Worst time**: After 9 PM (Saturday is the weakest day)

### Where 6 studies agree

Strongest slot: Thursday, 6-9 AM. Best day: Thursday. Weakest day: Saturday. Your audience's local time in most studies (SocialPilot uses Eastern Time). A higher score means more studies name that slot. Scores run from 0 to 100.

## What each study found. They agree on mornings, not on the hour.

| Study | Sample | Best times | Best days | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sprout Social, Mar 2026 | 2B engagements, 307K profiles, all networks | Tue to Thu 12-6 PM, Mon 2-3 PM and 5 PM | Tue, Wed, Thu | Saturday; Sunday is weak |
| Buffer, Mar 2026 | 8.7M posts | 8-11 AM every day, most at Tue 9 AM | Wed, Tue, Thu | 6-11 PM, Fri, Sat |
| Hootsuite, Nov 2025 | 1M+ posts, all networks | Wed to Fri 9-11 AM, Mon and Tue 10 AM | Wed, Thu, Fri | Before 5 AM |
| SocialPilot, Dec 2025 | 700K posts, 50K+ accounts | 8-11 AM and 3 PM on weekdays, Eastern Time | Tue, Wed, Thu | Weekends |
| Social Champ, Aug 2026 | 3.5M posts | One hour a day, most at Sun 9-10 AM | Sunday | None named |
| OpenTweet, Apr 2026 | 50K+ posts, tech-heavy users | 8-11 AM, plus 12-2 PM midweek | Wednesday | After 10 PM, Fri afternoon, Sunday |

Social Champ is the outlier: it names Tuesday and Wednesday 8-9 PM, which Buffer and OpenTweet call weak. Its time basis is not stated.

## What changed for timing. X opened its ranking code.

- **Aug 2026: X published its ranking weights** X added the weights its feed uses to blend predicted actions, such as likes and replies, into one score, and a note on how those weights work. (https://github.com/xai-org/x-algorithm)
- **Jan 2026: The For You algorithm went open source** X open-sourced its new For You ranking, built on the same transformer design as xAI's Grok. The code removes posts older than 48 hours, so recency still counts. (https://x.com/Engineering/status/2013471689087086804)

## Find your own best time. The map is a start, your numbers decide.

1. **Plan in your audience's time zone** Most studies use the audience's local time. If most followers live in New York, plan in Eastern Time, wherever you are.
2. **Schedule the morning posts** The best band starts around 9 AM. Schedule posts ahead so they go out on time, even before your workday starts.
3. **Skip the late evening** Buffer calls 6 to 11 PM the worst time, and OpenTweet finds weekday late nights after 10 PM the lowest. Save evenings for replies.
4. **Test one slot at a time** Post the same kind of content at two times for two to three weeks. Compare impressions and replies per post, not likes alone.
5. **Judge a post within two days** X's code drops posts older than 48 hours from For You. Compare slots on their first two days of numbers.
6. **Do not chase the minute** The studies disagree on the hour, from Buffer's 9 AM to Sprout Social's 12 to 6 PM. A strong post at a fair time beats a weak post at the best time.

## Sources and method

We read the 2025 and 2026 X timing studies from Sprout Social, Buffer, Hootsuite, SocialPilot, Social Champ and OpenTweet. Together they cover about 14 million posts plus Sprout Social's 2 billion engagements. Each study gets one vote per day and three-hour block: plus one when it names the block as a best time, minus one when it says to avoid the block or the day. The votes are scaled from 0 to 100, so the map shows where the studies agree, not an engagement rate. Left out: RecurPost (no sample or method), Metricool (no day-by-day data in 2026), Emplifi (one coarse row for X) and HubSpot's survey of marketers, which measures opinion.

## FAQ

### What is the best time to post on X (Twitter) in 2026?

Weekday mornings, about 9 AM to noon in your audience's local time. Six studies from 2025 and 2026 agree on that band more than on any other. They disagree on the exact hour, from Buffer's 9 AM to Sprout Social's 12 to 6 PM band, so test it on your own account.

### What is the best time to post on X today?

It depends on the day. Monday to Wednesday and Friday 9 to 11 AM, Thursday 8 to 9 AM, Saturday 9 to 11 AM and Sunday 9 AM to noon, all in your audience's local time. The heatmap on this page marks today's row.

### What is the best day to post on X?

Tuesday to Thursday. Sprout Social and SocialPilot name those three days, and Buffer and OpenTweet rank Wednesday first. Thursday scores highest on the map because the most studies name its early morning.

### What is the worst time to post on X?

Late evening and night. Buffer calls 6 to 11 PM the worst time, OpenTweet finds weekday nights after 10 PM the lowest, and Hootsuite says before 5 AM. Saturday is the weakest day; Sprout Social says to avoid it.

### What are the peak hours for X users?

For engagement, 9 AM to noon on weekdays, local time. Four of the six studies name that block on most weekdays. Sprout Social adds a midday band, 12 to 6 PM, Tuesday to Thursday.

### What is the best time to post on X in EST?

Use your audience's time zone. If most followers are on Eastern Time, post 9 AM to noon ET on weekdays. SocialPilot, the one study that uses Eastern Time, names 8 to 11 AM and 3 PM.

### How does the X algorithm work in 2026?

The For You feed ranks posts with a Grok-based model that predicts actions such as likes, replies and reposts, according to the code X open-sourced in January 2026. Posts older than 48 hours are filtered out, and each extra post from the same author in a feed is scored lower.

### Does posting time still matter on X?

Some. A post has about 48 hours in For You before X's code filters it out, so posting when your audience is awake gives it more of that window. The studies agree on the band, not the minute, so what you post matters more.

### What is the 4-1-1 rule on Twitter?

A content-mix rule of thumb from content marketing, not an X rule. The common version: for every six posts, four share useful content from others, one is a repost, and one promotes you. No X data backs the exact numbers.

### How does OmniSocials suggest a time to post on X?

It looks at your workspace's own X posts, weighted toward recent ones, and finds the days and hours that earned the most engagement. You see the suggestion when you schedule a post. Until 15 posts are analyzed, it shows labelled industry defaults.
