Posts take 63,206 characters, comments 8,000. Facebook folds long posts behind "See more". Paste a post below to count it.

## The short answer: Posts: 63,206 characters. Comments: 8,000.

A Facebook post can hold 63,206 characters and a comment 8,000. Facebook's Help Center does not state either number, but both are widely documented, and OmniSocials checks against them before you schedule. Long posts fold behind "See more", so lead with the point.

Facebook does state a few rules: a username needs at least 5 characters (letters, numbers and periods), and a colored background only works on a text post with no photo, video or link. Some Pages can also put links in only 2 organic posts or comments a month.

- **Post**: 63,206 (Widely documented)
- **Comment**: 8,000 (Widely documented)
- **Username**: 5+ (Letters, numbers and periods)

## Count a Facebook post

- Caption: up to 63,206 characters.
- Hashtags: no fixed limit.

## Every Facebook text limit in one table. With where each number comes from.

| Field | Limit | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Post | 63,206 characters | Widely documented; not in the Help Center |
| Comment | 8,000 characters | Widely documented; not in the Help Center |
| Text shown before "See more" | Not published | Varies by screen and line breaks |
| Username | At least 5 characters | Facebook Help Center: letters, numbers and periods |
| Profile intro (bio) | 101 characters | Widely documented; not in the Help Center |
| Page name | Not published | No number stated by Facebook |
| Hashtags | No limit published | One word, no spaces; numbers allowed |
| Posts or comments with links | 2 a month on some Pages | Facebook Help Center; Meta One plans raise it |
| Background color | Text posts only | Not with a photo, video or link |

Checked on October 17, 2026. Facebook's Help Center states few text limits; where it states none, the table says so.

## What changed for Facebook text. Links now have a budget.

- **2026: Monthly link limits for some Pages** Facebook can limit a Page to links in 2 organic posts or comments a month. Extra links in a thread you already linked in, links to Meta apps and links in ads do not count. (https://www.facebook.com/help/1929252614431792)

## Write posts that get read. The fold decides.

1. **Lead with the point** Long posts fold behind "See more". Put the reason to read in the first line or two.
2. **Use short paragraphs** Line breaks make a long post easier to read. The counter's copy button keeps blank lines.
3. **Count your links** If your Page has the link limit, each month allows 2 posts or comments with links. Add more links in the comments of a post you already linked in.
4. **Use backgrounds for short text** A colored background works only on a text post with no photo, video or link.
5. **Keep hashtags few and clear** Facebook sets no limit, but a hashtag must be one word without spaces or punctuation.
6. **Write your Page's username early** It needs at least 5 characters, using letters, numbers and periods. Facebook treats periods and capitals as the same username.

## Sources and method

Facebook's Help Center states few text limits. The page takes the rules it does state from the Help Center, read on October 17, 2026, and labels the widely documented numbers (posts, comments, profile intro) as such. The post and comment limits match what OmniSocials checks before it schedules.
