OmniSocials publishes YouTube Shorts to your channel. Regular long-form videos aren't supported, which is why YouTube only appears in the editor when you create a reel.

## What you can publish

| Format | Details |
|---|---|
| Short | One video of up to 3 minutes, created with the **Reel** post type |

Comments on your videos can also come into your [Social Inbox](/help-center/engagement/social-inbox).

## Requirements

- A Google account with a YouTube channel.
- The **Manage social channels** permission in your OmniSocials workspace.

Each workspace connects one YouTube channel.

## Connect YouTube

1. Click the workspace name at the top of the sidebar, then click the channels button under the workspace. The **Channels** window opens.
2. Under **Add a channel**, click **YouTube**.
3. Choose your Google account and allow every permission OmniSocials asks for, including "See, edit, and permanently delete your YouTube videos" and "View your YouTube account".
4. If the Google account manages more than one channel, choose the channel in **Choose a YouTube channel** and click **Connect** with the channel's name.

To publish to another channel later, reconnect YouTube and choose that channel.

## Create a Short

1. Click **Create Post** in the sidebar and click the **Reel** tab.
2. Add the video under **Select Reel**.
3. Click the YouTube icon in the channel bar.
4. Enter a **Short Title** and check the **Reel Description**.
5. Set the YouTube options in the options bar under the editor.

## YouTube options in the editor

YouTube's settings are post options. The bar under the editor has chips for the privacy (for example **Public**), **Made for kids** and **Tags**. Click the arrow at the end of the bar to see all of them on YouTube's page in the options panel. See [Set post options](/help-center/creating-content/create-post#set-post-options).

| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Privacy** | **Public**, **Unlisted** or **Private** |
| **Made for kids** | Marks the video as made for kids, for COPPA compliance |
| **AI-generated content** | Marks the video as containing synthetic media |
| **Notify subscribers** | Notifies your subscribers about the new Short |
| **Tags** | Adds tags to the video. Press Enter after each tag. |
| **First comment** | Posts a comment right after the Short goes live. The video must allow comments. |
| **Category** | Under **Details**: the YouTube category, such as Education or Entertainment |
| **License** | Under **Details**: **Standard YouTube License** or **Creative Commons Attribution** |
| **Language** and **Audio language** | Under **Details**: the language of the title and description, and of the audio |
| **Allow embedding** | Under **Details**: lets other sites embed the video |
| **Show view counts** | Under **Details**: shows the video's view count publicly on YouTube |

By scheduling or posting to YouTube, you confirm that the content complies with the YouTube Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. YouTube's page in the options panel shows this notice too.

### Covers

You can pick a cover under **Thumbnail** in the reel editor. YouTube shows a custom cover on Shorts only on channels where it has turned on custom Shorts thumbnails, starting with Partner Program channels. On other channels, your Short shows a frame from the video.

## Limits

| | Limit |
|---|---|
| Video length | Up to 3 minutes |
| Title | 100 characters |
| Description | 5,000 characters. A longer description is shortened. |
| First comment | 10,000 characters |
| Video files | MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 1 GB, the OmniSocials upload limit |

YouTube doesn't accept the characters < and > in titles and descriptions. OmniSocials replaces them with the similar-looking ‹ and ›.

## Troubleshooting

**That Google account has no YouTube channel.** Create a channel on YouTube and reconnect, or choose a different Google account.

**YouTube is missing required permissions.** Reconnect YouTube and keep every permission box checked in Google's window.

**Today's YouTube limit is reached.** YouTube limits how many requests OmniSocials can send per day. Nothing is wrong with your account. Try connecting again tomorrow.

**Google shows OmniSocials as connected, but the connection didn't complete.** Click **Connect** again.

**Your Short doesn't show the cover you picked.** Your channel doesn't have custom Shorts thumbnails yet, so YouTube uses a frame from the video.

**Your channel was deleted or moved to another Google account.** Reconnect YouTube with the Google account that now owns the channel.
