2 to 5 posts a week is the baseline in the largest study, Buffer's 11.4 million posts. Posting more raised views per post and the odds of a breakout video. TikTok's own advice is a daily target you can keep.

## The short answer: 2 to 5 posts a week, more if you can keep quality up.

Buffer's study of 11.4 million TikTok posts from over 150,000 accounts puts the baseline at 2 to 5 posts a week. Compared with one post a week, accounts got about 17% more views per post at 2 to 5 posts, 29% at 6 to 10 and 34% at 11 or more. The typical post barely changed; the gain came from more breakout posts.

TikTok gives no fixed number. Its Creator Academy says publishers who post several times a day see more views and For You exposure, and suggests "setting a daily post target you can consistently hit". Most brands post far less: the median brand posted 2 videos a week in 2025 (Rival IQ).

- **Sweet spot**: 2 to 5 a week (Buffer, 11.4 million posts)
- **Views per post**: Up to +34% (At 11+ posts a week, vs 1)
- **Median brand**: 2 a week (Rival IQ, 2025 data)

## Plan a week at your pace

- **Minimum**: 2 posts a week (Tue 7:00 PM video, Thu 8:00 AM video). 2 posts a week, about what the median brand posts (Rival IQ).
- **Sweet spot**: 4 posts a week (Mon 7:00 PM video, Wed 7:00 PM video, Thu 8:00 AM carousel, Sat 5:00 PM video). 4 posts a week, inside Buffer's 2 to 5: about 17% more views per post than 1 a week.
- **Growth**: 7 posts a week (Mon 7:00 PM video, Tue 7:00 PM video, Wed 4:00 PM carousel, Thu 8:00 AM video, Fri 7:00 PM video, Sat 5:00 PM video, Sun 10:00 AM carousel). One a day. 6 to 10 posts a week got about 29% more views per post (Buffer).
- **All in**: 14 posts a week (Mon 1:00 PM carousel, Mon 7:00 PM video, Tue 8:00 AM video, Tue 7:00 PM video, Wed 4:00 PM carousel, Wed 7:00 PM video, Thu 8:00 AM video, Thu 7:00 PM video, Fri 4:00 PM carousel, Fri 7:00 PM video, Sat 4:00 PM video, Sat 7:00 PM video, Sun 10:00 AM video, Sun 4:00 PM carousel). Two a day. 11 or more a week got about 34% more views per post, and more breakout posts.

## More posts, more breakouts. Buffer's 11.4 million posts, week by week.

| Posts a week | Views per post vs 1 a week | Median views per post | Top 10% of posts start at |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Baseline | 489 | 3,722 views |
| 2 to 5 | About +17% | 506 | 6,983 views |
| 6 to 10 | About +29% | 487 | 10,092 views |
| 11 or more | About +34% | 459 | 14,401 views |

Buffer compared each account with its own weeks, 11.4 million posts from about 151,000 profiles. The median post stays flat while the top 10% of posts grow, so posting more raises the odds of a breakout rather than lifting every post.

## How often to post each format. One budget, not separate quotas.

| Format | How often | Based on |
|---|---|---|
| All posts | 2 to 5 a week, more if quality holds | Buffer, 11.4M posts; TikTok: a daily target you can keep |
| Videos | Most of your posts | Metricool: videos got 5x the reach and 6x the interactions of images or carousels |
| Photo posts | Part of the total; no study gives a number | Photo Mode posts do not earn Creator Rewards |
| LIVE | No number; go LIVE regularly | TikTok: "the key is to go LIVE more often to build a loyal audience" |
| Stories | No data, so no number | TikTok: bite-sized content "between your regular posts" |

## What TikTok says about posting often. Consistency over a fixed number.

| Source | What it says | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Creator Academy | Publishers who post several times a day see more views; set a daily target you can keep | Jul 2026 |
| Creator Academy | "Consistency matters more than perfection"; schedule up to 30 days ahead | Aug 2026 |
| TikTok for Business | For small businesses: "You don't need to post daily", but keep a schedule | Oct 2024 |
| TikTok for Business | "Aim to post 1-4 times per day" to test content; still the figure other guides cite | Oct 2021 |
| Content Posting API | Apps can post "typically around 15 posts per day" to one creator account | Read Oct 2026 |

Checked on October 17, 2026. No TikTok page we read says posting often lowers reach.

## What changed for posting frequency. More posts, more competition.

It suggests batching content and scheduling up to 30 days ahead in TikTok Studio on the web. (https://www.tiktok.com/creator-academy/article/building-a-sustainable-posting-routine)
- **Jul 2026: A daily target you can keep** TikTok's posting cadence guide says publishers who post multiple times a day see more views and For You exposure, and to set a daily target you can consistently hit. - **May 2026: More posts, fewer views each** Metricool users published 72% more videos and nearly 140% more photo posts than a year earlier, while video views fell 31%. More accounts post more, so each post has more company. (https://metricool.com/press-release-tiktok-study-2026/)

## Post more without burning out. Consistency is the goal.

1. **Pick a target you can keep** TikTok suggests a daily target you can consistently hit. Start at 2 to 5 a week and add one when it feels easy.
2. **Post more for more breakouts** In Buffer's data the median post stayed flat as accounts posted more, but their best posts got much bigger.
3. **Lead with video** Metricool found videos got 5x the reach and 6x the interactions of photo posts. Use photo posts as a change of pace.
4. **Batch the week, then schedule it** TikTok's own routine tips: set aside filming days, film several videos in one place, and schedule them ahead.
5. **Build a repeatable format** TikTok suggests series and a format on a set day, like a new drill every Tuesday. It keeps ideas coming.
6. **Make every post new** TikTok typically does not recommend content a viewer has already seen, so reposting the same clip adds little.

## Sources and method

The frequency numbers come from Buffer's study of 11.4 million TikTok posts, which compares each account with its own weeks, and from TikTok's Creator Academy, TikTok for Business and developer guidelines. Metricool's 2026 study adds what changed year over year, and Rival IQ and Dash Social show what brands really post. Where no study gives a number (photo posts, LIVE, Stories), the page says so instead of guessing.

## FAQ

### How often should you post on TikTok?

2 to 5 times a week to start. That is Buffer's recommendation from 11.4 million posts. Accounts that posted 11 or more times a week got about 34% more views per post, so post more if you can keep the quality up.

### How many times a day should you post on TikTok?

TikTok sets no number. Its Creator Academy suggests a daily target you can consistently hit, and says publishers who post multiple times a day see more views. Once or twice a day is plenty for most accounts.

### Is it bad to post on TikTok every day?

No. In Buffer's data, 6 to 10 posts a week got about 29% more views per post than one. TikTok's cadence guide recommends an always-on presence, "without burning out your audience".

### Does posting too much hurt you on TikTok?

No TikTok page we read says it lowers reach. Buffer found views per post rose with more posts. Dash Social reports brands posting under 6 times a week saw 93% higher engagement, but does not say how it measured that.

### How often should I post on TikTok to grow?

Post at least 2 to 5 times a week and add more when you can. More posts raised the odds of a breakout video in Buffer's data, and TikTok says to post a format often once it works.

### How often should a business post on TikTok?

The same baseline applies: 2 to 5 posts a week. TikTok tells small businesses "You don't need to post daily" but to keep a schedule. The median brand posted 2 videos a week in 2025 (Rival IQ); large brands averaged about 8 (Dash Social).

### Is posting 3 times a day on TikTok too much?

Not if you can keep it up. TikTok's 2021 advertiser guide said "Aim to post 1-4 times per day", and apps can post about 15 a day to one account. Quality is the limit, not TikTok.

### How long should you wait between TikTok posts?

TikTok publishes no minimum gap. Its Following and Friends feeds generally do not show two posts in a row from the same creator, so spreading posts across the day loses nothing.

### Do photo posts count toward how often I post?

Yes. TikTok treats video, photo and text posts as posts, and no study gives photo posts their own quota. Metricool found videos got more reach and interactions, so keep most posts as videos.

### Can OmniSocials show how often I post?

Yes. Analytics has a posting streak card that counts your posts per week, and the calendar shows the week ahead, drafts included, so gaps are easy to spot.
