# How often should you post on X (Twitter) in 2026?

> Post 1 to 2 times a day on X, more if quality holds. What the studies, X's open-source ranking code and its daily post limits say about posting more.

Checked: October 17, 2026

Measured averages sit at 1 to 3 posts a day, and Buffer says to post daily. X publishes no number, but its ranking code scores down each extra post from one author in a feed, so spread them out.

## The short answer: 1 to 2 posts a day, more if you can keep the quality up.

X publishes no posting frequency. The measured averages sit at 1 to 3 posts a day: 12 a week in Metricool's study of 2.1 million posts, 2 a day in Sprout Social's benchmarks and 18.1 a week for businesses in Hootsuite's data. Buffer's advice is to post daily, or several times a day if you have the time.

X's own code adds two rules of thumb. Its For You ranking scores down each post after an author's first in someone's feed, so spread posts across the day. And it filters out posts older than 48 hours. Unverified accounts can post up to 50 original posts and 200 replies a day.

- **Posts**: 1 to 2 a day (About 12 a week is average)
- **Daily limit**: 50 posts (Original posts, unverified accounts)
- **Shelf life**: 48 hours (For You filters out older posts)

## Plan a week at your pace

- **Minimum**: 5 posts a week (Mon 9:00 AM text, Tue 9:00 AM photo, Wed 10:00 AM thread, Thu 8:00 AM text, Fri 10:00 AM video). One post each weekday morning keeps the account moving.
- **Sweet spot**: 12 posts a week (Mon 9:00 AM text, Mon 2:00 PM photo, Tue 9:00 AM thread, Tue 1:00 PM text, Wed 10:00 AM photo, Wed 3:00 PM text, Thu 8:00 AM text, Thu 4:00 PM video, Fri 10:00 AM text, Sat 10:00 AM photo, Sun 10:00 AM text, Sun 12:00 PM photo). About 12 posts a week, the average in Metricool's study of 2.1 million posts.
- **Growth**: 18 posts a week (Mon 9:00 AM text, Mon 12:00 PM photo, Mon 3:00 PM text, Tue 9:00 AM thread, Tue 12:00 PM text, Tue 3:00 PM video, Wed 10:00 AM text, Wed 1:00 PM photo, Wed 4:00 PM text, Thu 8:00 AM text, Thu 11:00 AM photo, Thu 4:00 PM thread, Fri 9:00 AM text, Fri 11:00 AM photo, Sat 9:00 AM photo, Sat 11:00 AM text, Sun 10:00 AM photo, Sun 12:00 PM text). 2 to 3 posts a day, Hootsuite's advice. Businesses averaged 18.1 a week in early 2025.
- **All in**: 28 posts a week (Mon 8:00 AM text, Mon 10:00 AM photo, Mon 1:00 PM thread, Mon 5:00 PM text, Tue 8:00 AM text, Tue 10:00 AM thread, Tue 1:00 PM photo, Tue 5:00 PM video, Wed 9:00 AM text, Wed 11:00 AM photo, Wed 2:00 PM text, Wed 5:00 PM thread, Thu 8:00 AM text, Thu 10:00 AM video, Thu 1:00 PM text, Thu 4:00 PM photo, Fri 7:00 AM text, Fri 9:00 AM photo, Fri 11:00 AM thread, Fri 1:00 PM text, Sat 8:00 AM text, Sat 10:00 AM photo, Sat 12:00 PM text, Sat 2:00 PM video, Sun 9:00 AM text, Sun 11:00 AM photo, Sun 12:30 PM thread, Sun 2:00 PM text). 4 a day. The largest accounts post about 95 a week (Metricool). Space posts out.

## What X and the studies say. Advice and averages, side by side.

| Source | How often | Based on |
|---|---|---|
| Buffer, Mar 2026 | Daily, or several times a day | Advice in its study of 8.7M posts |
| Hootsuite, Apr 2025 | 2 to 3 a day | Advice; businesses averaged 18.1 a week in Q1 2025 |
| Sprout Social, Aug 2025 | 2 a day, the industry average | Nearly 3B messages from 1M profiles, observed |
| Metricool, Oct 2024 | 12 a week on average | 2.1M posts from 23,561 accounts; the largest post about 95 |
| Socialinsider, Jan 2026 | 70 a month for brands in 2025 | 70M posts; up 40% on 2024 while engagement fell |
| OpenTweet, Apr 2026 | 1 to 3 a day | Advice from 50K+ posts, tech-heavy users |
| X's ranking code, Jan 2026 | No number | Each post after an author's first is scored down |

Observed averages show what accounts do, not what works best. X publishes no recommended frequency.

## How much X lets you post. Technical limits, not targets.

| Limit | X app | Schedulers (the API) |
|---|---|---|
| Original posts a day | 50 for unverified accounts | The same account limit |
| Replies a day | 200 for unverified accounts | Replies to others only when their author summoned you |
| All updates a day | 2,400, split into half-hour limits | The same, plus 100 posts per 15 minutes |
| Cost per post | Free | X charges apps $0.015, or $0.20 with a link |

X's Help Center says these limits count actions from all devices, the API included. API rules are from X's developer docs, read on October 17, 2026; the summoned-reply rule applies to self-serve API plans.

## What changed for posting frequency. New caps, open code.

- **Aug 2026: X published its ranking weights** X added the weights its For You feed uses to score predicted likes, replies and other actions to its open-source code. (https://github.com/xai-org/x-algorithm)
- **May 2026: A daily cap for unverified accounts** X's limits page now caps unverified accounts at 50 original posts and 200 replies a day. The old page listed only 2,400 updates a day. (https://help.x.com/en/rules-and-policies/x-limits)
- **Apr 2026: Links cost more through the API** X began charging API apps $0.20 for each post with a link, against $0.015 for a plain post. The same week, Nikita Bier said: "Link clicks are higher than they've ever been." (https://docs.x.com/changelog)
- **Feb 2026: Fewer automated replies** Replies through X's self-serve API are only allowed when the original post's author has summoned the replying account. (https://docs.x.com/changelog)
- **Jan 2026: The ranking code went open source** X open-sourced its For You ranking. Each post after an author's first in a feed is multiplied by a decaying factor, so bursts of posts compete with each other. (https://x.com/Engineering/status/2013471689087086804)

## Post more without burning out. Steady beats bursts.

1. **Pick a pace you can keep** Start with one post each weekday morning. Add a second post when the first feels easy.
2. **Spread posts across the day** X's code scores each extra post from you in a feed lower. Two posts hours apart beat two posts minutes apart.
3. **Make each post stand alone** Nikita Bier's advice for link posts: "the post should stand alone as great content so write a solid caption."
4. **Count replies separately** Unverified accounts get 200 replies a day on top of 50 original posts. Replies are where conversations start.
5. **Batch the week, then schedule it** Write a week of posts in one sitting and schedule them into the morning windows. Gaps are easier to see on a calendar.
6. **Judge a pace after two weeks** Posts leave For You after 48 hours, so compare impressions per post week by week, not day by day.

## Schedule it with OmniSocials

## Sources and method

X publishes no posting frequency, so the numbers come from studies: advice from Buffer, Hootsuite and OpenTweet, and observed averages from Sprout Social, Metricool, Socialinsider and Hootsuite. X's own Help Center gives the daily limits, its open-source For You code shows how repeat posts are scored, and its developer docs give the API rules. Where no source gives a number (threads, replies), the page says so instead of guessing.

## FAQ

### How often should you post on X (Twitter)?

1 to 2 times a day, more if you can keep the quality up. Measured averages run from 12 posts a week (Metricool) to 2 a day (Sprout Social), and Buffer advises posting daily. X publishes no number of its own.

### How many tweets per day should you post?

Start with 1 or 2. Hootsuite advises 2 to 3 a day and OpenTweet 1 to 3. Space them hours apart, because X's code scores each extra post from you in a feed lower.

### How many posts can you make on X per day?

Unverified accounts can make 50 original posts and 200 replies a day, per X's Help Center. The overall limit is 2,400 updates a day, split into smaller half-hour limits.

### Will posting too often hurt my reach on X?

It can thin it out. X's open-source code multiplies each post after an author's first in a feed by a decaying factor, so a burst of posts competes with itself. Spread posts out instead of posting less.

### Is it bad to post on X every day?

No. Buffer advises posting daily if you want to grow, and the average account posts more than once a day. Keep each post worth reading.

### How often should a business post on X?

Around 2 a day is normal for brands. Businesses averaged 18.1 posts a week in early 2025 (Hootsuite), and brands averaged 70 a month in 2025 (Socialinsider).

### How long should you wait between posts on X?

X sets no minimum gap. Its ranking scores repeat posts from one author lower in the same feed, so a few hours between posts gives each one room.

### Do posts with links get less reach on X?

Buffer's 2025 study of 18.8 million posts found link posts from non-Premium accounts got almost no engagement after March 2025. Nikita Bier, X's head of product at the time, said in April 2026 that link clicks were higher than ever, and advised adding context in the post.

### Does a thread count as one post?

Each part of a thread is its own post on X. X does not say how threads count toward the daily limit, and no study gives a thread frequency.

### Can OmniSocials show how often I post?

Yes. Analytics has a posting streak card that counts your posts per week, and the calendar shows the week ahead, drafts and threads included, so gaps are easy to spot.
