A plain-text message takes 4,096 characters. A caption under a photo or video takes 1,024, and that is what schedulers get. Paste a caption below to count it.

## The short answer: Messages: 4,096 characters. Captions: 1,024.

Through Telegram's Bot API, which schedulers use, a plain-text message holds 4,096 characters and a caption under a photo, video or album holds 1,024. Links, @mentions, #hashtags, emoji and line breaks all count toward it.

In the Telegram app, Premium users can write captions of up to 4,096 characters, and since July 2026 the Premium Rich Text Editor sends up to 32,768 characters in one message. Bots got rich messages of the same size in June 2026. OmniSocials sends plain text, so 4,096 and 1,024 apply, and a longer caption goes out as a reply under the media.

- **Message**: 4,096 (Plain text; 32,768 as rich text)
- **Caption**: 1,024 (4,096 with Premium, in the app)
- **Poll question**: 300 (Up to 12 answers of 100)

## Count a caption against Telegram's 1,024 limit

- Caption: up to 1,024 characters.
- Hashtags: no fixed limit.

## Every Telegram text limit in one table. With where each number comes from.

| Field | Limit | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Text message (plain text) | 4,096 characters | Telegram Bot API |
| Rich text message | 32,768 characters | Bot API 10.1 (Jun 2026); in the app, Premium only (Jul 2026) |
| Caption under a photo, video or album | 1,024 characters; 4,096 for Premium users in the app | Bot API; Telegram's client config |
| Photos and videos per album | 10 | Telegram Bot API |
| Poll question | 300 characters | Telegram Bot API |
| Poll answers | Up to 12, 100 characters each | Bot API; Telegram's client config |
| Poll open time | Up to 2,628,000 seconds (about 30 days) | Telegram Bot API, since Apr 2026 |

Checked on October 17, 2026. Schedulers post through the Bot API, so its limits are the ones a scheduled post must fit. "Not published" means Telegram states no number.

## What OmniSocials does with long text. Nothing gets cut off.

| Post | How it goes out |
|---|---|
| Text only, up to 4,096 characters | One message |
| Photo or video, text up to 1,024 characters | One message with the text as its caption |
| Photo or video, text of 1,025 to 4,096 characters | The media first, then the full text as a silent reply under it |
| Poll | The post text is the question, up to 300 characters, with 2 to 12 answers |

From the OmniSocials web app, October 17, 2026. OmniSocials sends plain text: Telegram turns links, @mentions and #hashtags into links by itself.

## What changed for Telegram text. Longer messages, richer polls.

- **Jul 2026: Rich Text Editor: 32,768 characters** Premium users can write one message of up to 32,768 characters, with headings, tables, lists, photos and videos inside. The editor is for Premium only. (https://telegram.org/blog/communities-editor-invisible-messages)
- **Jun 2026: Rich messages for bots** Bot API 10.1 lets bots send formatted rich messages of up to 32,768 characters. Plain-text messages through the API stay at 4,096. (https://core.telegram.org/bots/api-changelog)
- **Apr 2026: Polls can stay open for 30 days** Bots can close a poll automatically after up to 2,628,000 seconds, about 30 days. (https://core.telegram.org/bots/api-changelog)
- **Mar 2026: Polls got media and more settings** Polls can carry media on the question and the answers, shuffle the answers and let people suggest new ones. (https://telegram.org/blog/ai-editor-mighty-polls-and-more)
- **Jul 2025: Up to 12 poll answers** The most answers in one poll went up to 12. (https://core.telegram.org/bots/api-changelog)

## Write Telegram posts that get read. The first line decides.

1. **Put the point in the first line** The first line is what people see in their chat list and notifications. Make it the reason to open the post.
2. **Plan captions around 1,024** A caption under a photo or video stops at 1,024 characters for schedulers. Keep it short, or let OmniSocials send the rest as a reply.
3. **Do not count on Premium limits** Premium's 4,096-character captions and 32,768-character rich messages work in the app. A plain scheduled post gets 4,096 and 1,024.
4. **Write links and tags as plain text** Telegram turns links, @mentions and #hashtags into links by itself. They count toward the limit like any other text.
5. **Keep poll answers short** Each answer takes 100 characters, but short answers are easier to read and tap on a phone.
6. **Use all 255 description characters** Say what the channel posts and how often. It is what people read before they join.

## Schedule it with OmniSocials

## Sources and method

Each limit comes from Telegram's Bot API, its changelog, Telegram's client configuration docs, its API method pages or the Telegram blog, read on October 17, 2026. The Bot API is what schedulers use, so where the app differs (Premium captions, rich text), the table shows both. Telegram publishes no plain-text limit for its apps; the 4,096 figure is the Bot API's.
