TikTok's app takes captions of up to 4,000 characters, hashtags included. The Help Center does not list that number, but it is widely documented. Scheduled videos are different: TikTok's Content Posting API caps a video caption at 2,200 characters, and every scheduler posts through it. Photo posts keep 4,000 for the description, plus a title of up to 90.

Your bio takes 80 characters, your name 30 and your username 2 to 24. Alt text on a photo post takes 300 characters per photo. The app takes up to 5 hashtags per post, a cap reported since August 2025 that TikTok has not announced, and hashtags count toward the caption.

4. **Do not stuff keywords** TikTok warns that unrelated keyword text can get a video flagged for spam. Use words that describe the video.
5. **Bio: who you are, why follow** 80 characters is one or two short lines. Say who you are and what people get from following you.
6. **Add alt text to photo posts** Alt text describes a photo for screen readers. TikTok allows 300 characters for each photo.
