# X (Twitter) image sizes and dimensions for 2026

> Header 1500 x 500, profile photo 400 x 400, and post photos from 2:1 to 3:4 shown uncropped, like 1080 x 1350. Every X image size, with file limits.

Page: https://omnisocials.com/twitter-image-sizes
Checked: October 17, 2026

The header is 1500 × 500 and the profile photo 400 × 400. A single photo shows uncropped anywhere from 2:1 wide to 3:4 tall, so 1920 × 1080 and 1080 × 1350 both fit.

## The short answer: Header 1500 × 500. Profile photo 400 × 400. Posts show whole from 2:1 to 3:4.

X's Help Center recommends 1500 × 500 for the header and 400 × 400 for the profile photo, in JPG, GIF or PNG, with profile photos under 2 MB. Depending on the screen, up to 60 px at the top and bottom of the header can be cropped, so keep text in the middle.

X publishes no pixel size for post photos. It says a single photo between 2:1 and 3:4 shows in full, so 1920 × 1080 (16:9), 1080 × 1350 (4:5) and 1080 × 1440 (3:4) all show uncropped. Photos can be up to 5 MB in the app and through the API that schedulers, OmniSocials included, use.

- **Header**: 1500 × 500 (3:1, keep text out of the top and bottom 60 px)
- **Profile photo**: 400 × 400 (Under 2 MB)
- **Post photo**: 2:1 to 3:4 (Shows uncropped, up to 5 MB)

## Every X image size in one table. In pixels, width × height.

## What the app allows, and what a scheduled post must fit. Schedulers publish through X's API.

| Limit | X app | Schedulers (the API) |
|---|---|---|
| Photos per post | 1 to 4 | Up to 4 |
| Photo file | Up to 5 MB, JPG, PNG or GIF | Up to 5 MB, JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP |
| Animated GIF | 5 MB on mobile, 15 MB on web | 15 MB, up to 350 frames |
| Video size | Up to 1920 × 1200 | 32 × 32 to 1280 × 1024 listed |
| Video shape | 1:2.39 to 2.39:1 | 1:3 to 3:1 |
| Video frame rate | Up to 40 fps | Up to 60 fps |
| Header and profile photo | Set on X | Not set by schedulers |

Every scheduler, OmniSocials included, publishes through X's API, so the right column is what a scheduled post must fit. OmniSocials posts up to 4 images, or one video, and re-encodes video to H.264 when X needs it.

## Size it once, post it anywhere. Six rules that cover most posts.

1. **Stay between 2:1 and 3:4** Inside that range a single photo shows whole in the feed. Outside it, X crops the photo.
2. **Go tall for more screen** 1080 × 1440 (3:4) is the tallest photo X shows uncropped. 1080 × 1350 (4:5) also works on Instagram.
3. **Keep files under 5 MB** Photos over 5 MB are refused, in the app and through the API. Export JPG for photos and PNG for text-heavy graphics.
4. **Center subjects in multi-photo posts** With 2 to 4 photos, X crops each one into a tile. Keep faces and text in the middle of every photo.
5. **Keep header text in the middle** Up to 60 px at the top and bottom of a 1500 × 500 header can be cut, depending on the screen. Keep logos and text in the middle band.
6. **Add a description to every photo** X takes image descriptions of up to 1,000 characters for screen readers, in the app and through the API.

## Sources and method

Every size on this page comes from X's Help Center, X's developer docs or X's ads guide, read on October 17, 2026. X publishes no pixel size for post photos, only the 2:1 to 3:4 range that shows in full, so the per-ratio sizes are the ones X's ads guide lists or the ratio at 1,080 px wide. Where X publishes nothing (multi-photo crops), the page says so.

## FAQ

### What is the recommended image size for X (Twitter) in 2026?

X publishes no single size for post photos. A photo between 2:1 and 3:4 shows uncropped, so 1920 × 1080 (16:9) or 1080 × 1350 (4:5) both work. Keep the file under 5 MB.

### What size is the X (Twitter) header?

1500 × 500 pixels, a 3:1 ratio, per X's Help Center. Up to 60 px at the top and bottom can be cropped on some screens, so keep text and logos in the middle.

### What is the X profile picture size?

400 × 400 pixels, under 2 MB, in JPG, GIF or PNG. Animated GIFs are not supported. The photo shows as a circle, so keep the subject centered.

### Does 1080 × 1350 work on X?

Yes. 1080 × 1350 is 4:5, inside the 2:1 to 3:4 range that X shows in full, so a single 4:5 photo is not cropped in the feed.

### Is JPEG or PNG better for X?

Both are accepted up to 5 MB. JPEG keeps photos small, and PNG keeps text and sharp graphics crisp. Through the API, WEBP works too.

### How many photos can I add to one post?

Up to 4 photos, or one animated GIF. A GIF cannot share a post with other images.

### Why does X crop my photos?

A single photo is cropped when it is wider than 2:1 or taller than 3:4. With 2 to 4 photos, X crops each one into a tile; X publishes no tile sizes.

### What is the maximum GIF size on X?

5 MB on mobile and 15 MB on web. Through the API, a GIF can be up to 15 MB, 1280 × 1080 and 350 frames.

### How do I resize an image for X?

Crop it to a ratio between 2:1 and 3:4, export it at about 1080 px wide or more, and keep it under 5 MB. For the header, use exactly 1500 × 500.
