How to cancel a Hootsuite subscription step by step

To cancel Hootsuite, sign in as the organization's Super Admin, go to Account, select Plan and billing, and then select Update subscription. The cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid or trial period, and Hootsuite does not refund the rest of the term by default.

Key takeaways

  • To cancel Hootsuite, the organization Super Admin goes to Account, then Plan and billing, then Update subscription.
  • The cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid or trial period. Self-serve fees are not refunded by default, but you can ask Hootsuite to review a charge.
  • Enterprise and Business plans renew for a year unless you email cancellation@hootsuite.com at least 60 days before the term ends.
  • An iPhone app subscription is billed by Apple and must be cancelled with Apple separately, at least 24 hours before renewal.
  • Export your calendar (CSV, up to 365 days), analytics and invoices first, and cancel rather than delete if you might come back.

That is the short version. The details below cover who can cancel, trials, refunds, iPhone subscriptions, Enterprise contracts, and what to export before you go. Every step was checked against Hootsuite's help center and legal pages on October 18, 2026.

Before you cancel: export what you want to keep

Cancelling keeps your data for a later restart, but deleting the account removes it for good. Export first either way.

WhatWhere in HootsuiteLimits
What: Content calendarWhere in Hootsuite: Calendar, then Export, pick a format and date rangeLimits: PDF covers up to 1 week; CSV up to 365 days. Over 500 posts means CSV only.
What: Analytics reportsWhere in Hootsuite: Analytics, open a report, set the date range, then ExportLimits: PDF and PPTX on all plans; CSV and XLSX for custom reports on Advanced and up
What: Post performanceWhere in Hootsuite: Analytics, Post performance, then ExportLimits: Up to 10,000 posts
What: Inbox dataWhere in Hootsuite: Inbox, Track performance, then ExportsLimits: Needs admin permissions. LinkedIn Page comments and messages can't be exported.
What: InvoicesWhere in Hootsuite: Plan and billing, then Billing historyLimits: Print each invoice to PDF

Two things exports leave out: unscheduled drafts and ad data. Download links expire after one week, so save the files right away.

If you use paid Hootsuite apps, cancel them at least two days before your billing date. Hootsuite does not prorate app cancellations.

How to cancel a Hootsuite subscription (web)

  1. Sign in as the Super Admin. Only the organization's Super Admin can change or cancel the plan. That is usually the person who created the organization.
  2. Go to Account, then Plan and billing. Some help articles describe a longer path: Account, then Social accounts and teams, then Plan and billing in the side menu. Both lead to the same page.
  3. Select Update subscription and follow the steps to cancel. Older help pages call the button Cancel subscription.
  4. Check your email. Hootsuite sends a confirmation for every plan change.

Guides from other sites report that the flow can show a short survey and a discount offer before the final cancel button. Hootsuite's own help center does not describe those screens, so expect them but don't rely on them.

If your account is overdue, you have to update your payment details before you can change the plan.

Cancelling during the free trial

Hootsuite's own pages disagree here, so check what applies to you:

  • The current plans page (October 2026) says a new 14-day trial needs no card and is not charged automatically when it ends.
  • Older help articles and the terms of service say the trial converts to a paid plan and charges your card unless you cancel or delete before it ends.

If you entered a card, cancel before the trial ends through Account, Plan and billing, Update subscription. A cancellation during the trial takes effect when the trial ends. You get one trial per account, and changing plans does not restart it.

Cancelling an iPhone app subscription

A subscription bought inside the Hootsuite iPhone app is billed by Apple and only covers the mobile app. Cancel it in your Apple ID subscriptions at least 24 hours before the next billing date. Hootsuite can't see or refund app store purchases, and the web plan and the Apple subscription have to be cancelled separately.

The current help center documents mobile-only subscriptions on iOS only. In the app you can delete your account (profile picture, Settings, Delete Account), but cancelling a plan is done on the web.

Cancelling Hootsuite Enterprise or Business plans

Enterprise and Business plans are contracts, not self-serve plans:

  • They renew automatically for another year unless you send a written non-renewal notice to cancellation@hootsuite.com at least 60 days before the end of your term.
  • Your Hootsuite account manager handles plan changes.
  • Cancelling in the dashboard is not the same as giving notice. Send the email, and keep a copy.

Refunds: what to expect

  • Self-serve plans are non-refundable. If you cancel or downgrade, you keep paying for the rest of the term, and you keep your features until it ends.
  • Annual plans are a one-year commitment paid up front, with no refund for the unused months.
  • Deleting the account closes it immediately, with no proration or partial refund.
  • You can still ask. Hootsuite says it will review charges through its refund request form. Approved refunds take 5 to 10 business days.
  • App store purchases are refunded by Apple, not Hootsuite.

Cancel vs delete: which one you want

Cancel subscriptionDelete account
When it takes effectCancel subscription: End of the paid or trial periodDelete account: Immediately
Access until thenCancel subscription: Yes, all plan featuresDelete account: No
Scheduled postsCancel subscription: Not documented for posts after the end dateDelete account: Permanently deleted
Come back laterCancel subscription: Yes, with your data restoredDelete account: No. The email can't be reused for a new account.
RefundCancel subscription: No, by defaultDelete account: No proration or partial refund
Before you can do itCancel subscription: Super Admin accessDelete account: Delete or transfer your organization first

Hootsuite itself recommends cancelling instead of deleting. Delete only if you are sure you will never come back.

Hootsuite does not document what happens to posts scheduled after your plan ends. Export your calendar and reschedule those posts in your next tool before the end date.

After you cancel: disconnect your social accounts

Cancelling does not remove Hootsuite's access to your social accounts. To cut it completely, revoke the app in each network's settings:

  • Facebook and Instagram: Meta Business Integrations settings
  • X: Settings, Connected apps
  • YouTube and Google Business Profile: your Google Account's third-party access page
  • LinkedIn: Settings, Data privacy, Permitted services
  • Pinterest: Settings, Apps
  • TikTok: only from the TikTok mobile app

Removing a social account inside Hootsuite also deletes its scheduled content and analytics history in Hootsuite, so export first.

Alternatives to cancelling completely

  • Downgrade. A smaller plan takes effect at the end of the current period. The help center only documents downgrades for some older plans, so check what your dashboard offers.
  • Switch billing. An annual plan can only move to monthly after the year is over.
  • Nonprofit pricing. Hootsuite offers nonprofit discounts through TechSoup and Goodstack.
  • No free plan and no pause. Hootsuite ended its free plan in March 2023, and the help center describes no way to pause billing.

Moving to another tool

Most people cancel Hootsuite because of the price: plans are sold per user, at $99 (Standard), $199 (Professional) and $399 (Advanced) a month per user on annual billing (checked October 18, 2026).

If you're switching, OmniSocials costs $10 per seat a month billed yearly ($12 billed monthly). A seat is one brand or one extra teammate, and each seat includes all 12 platforms, an inbox for 7 of them, approval workflows, and a REST API and MCP server. It does not have Hootsuite's social listening or enterprise features.

For a side-by-side comparison, see OmniSocials vs Hootsuite. If you're still choosing, read Hootsuite vs Buffer. For the move itself, see how to switch from Hootsuite.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a refund if I cancel Hootsuite?

Not by default. Hootsuite's self-serve terms say fees are non-refundable and you keep paying until the end of the plan term. You keep access until then. You can still ask Hootsuite to review a charge through its refund request form; approved refunds take 5 to 10 business days.

How do I cancel the Hootsuite free trial?

Hootsuite's plans page (October 2026) says new trials need no card and are not charged automatically. If you entered a card, cancel before the trial ends: Account, Plan and billing, Update subscription. The change takes effect at the end of the trial.

Does deleting my Hootsuite account cancel my subscription?

Deleting closes the account immediately, deletes your scheduled content, and gives no partial refund. Hootsuite itself suggests cancelling the subscription instead, which keeps your plan until the end of the period and lets you come back later with your data.

Can I cancel Hootsuite on my phone?

Cancel the Hootsuite plan on the web. If you bought a subscription in the iPhone app, it is billed by Apple and you cancel it in your Apple ID subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the next billing date. The two cancellations are separate.

How do I cancel Hootsuite Enterprise?

Enterprise and Business plans renew automatically for another year unless you send written notice of non-renewal to cancellation@hootsuite.com at least 60 days before the end of the term. Work with your account manager and keep a copy of your email.
