Scheduling

How to Schedule Telegram Posts for Channels and Groups (2026)

Telegram can schedule one message at a time in each chat. Here is how that works, when a scheduling tool is worth it, and how to schedule Telegram channel and group posts step by step.

OmniSocials calendar with scheduled Telegram channel posts

A Telegram channel is one of the few places where a post still reaches every subscriber in their chat list. No feed ranking decides who sees it. That makes timing matter: a post at 7 in the morning lands next to the messages people open first, a post at 2 at night sits under everything that arrives after it.

So you want to schedule. Telegram has a scheduler built in, and for one channel it is often enough. Once Telegram is one channel next to Instagram, LinkedIn and the rest, you want it in the same calendar.

I run OmniSocials, and we added Telegram channels and groups in October 2026. Below is how Telegram's own scheduling works, when a tool is worth it, and the full setup with OmniSocials, including the things it does not do.

The short answer

  • One chat, now and then: hold the Send button in Telegram and choose Schedule Message. Free and built in.
  • Several channels, a team or a content plan: use a scheduling tool that posts through a Telegram bot. OmniSocials, Publer, Postiz, Ayrshare and Zernio all do this.

Does Telegram have built-in scheduling?

Yes. Telegram added scheduled messages in 2019. In Telegram's words: "Hold the 'Send' button in any chat and select 'Schedule Message' to automatically send things at a specified time in the future."

"Any chat" includes channels and groups. To schedule a channel post:

  1. Open your channel and write the post.
  2. Hold the Send button.
  3. Choose Schedule Message, pick the date and time, and confirm.

The post waits in that channel's scheduled messages until the time comes. Every chat has its own queue, as Telegram's API docs put it: "each PM, chat, supergroup and channel has its own schedule queue". Telegram Premium users can also repeat a scheduled message every day, week, two weeks, month, three months, six months or year.

Where the built-in scheduler stops

  • One chat at a time. There is no overview of what is scheduled across your channels, and nothing about your other social networks.
  • It runs on your own account. The post is planned from your phone or desktop app. A colleague, a client or an approval step has no place in it.
  • No reuse. Posting the same launch to Telegram, Instagram and LinkedIn means writing it three times in three apps.

None of that matters if you post to one channel yourself. It starts to matter when Telegram is part of a content plan.

Why teams use a scheduling tool for Telegram

One calendar for every channel. With OmniSocials, Telegram sits on the same calendar as Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and the other platforms. You see the whole week at once and move posts around in one place.

Approvals. A teammate or client can review and approve a Telegram post before it goes out, like any other post.

Repost from Instagram or TikTok to Telegram. A repost automation copies new posts from Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and the other sources to your Telegram channel or group. Post a Reel once, and your Telegram subscribers get it too.

AI agents. With the OmniSocials MCP server, Claude, ChatGPT or another AI agent can write and schedule a Telegram post for you, polls and link buttons included.

The API. Developers can post to Telegram from their own code with the OmniSocials API, with the same options as the composer.

One technical note: Telegram's Bot API has no schedule option. So every tool in this article keeps your post on its own servers and its bot sends it at the time you set. The schedule lives in the tool, not in Telegram.

How to schedule Telegram posts with OmniSocials

1. Connect your channel or group

You connect in Telegram itself. No bot token, no BotFather, no copying IDs.

  1. In OmniSocials, open Channels, pick Telegram and click Connect.
  2. The OmniSocials bot opens in Telegram. Press Start.
  3. Tap Choose a channel or Choose a group and pick your chat in Telegram's own chat picker.

In a channel, Telegram adds the bot as an admin that can post. In a group, the bot joins as a member. Either way, OmniSocials checks that you are an admin of that chat, so nobody can connect a chat that is not theirs. Supergroups work too.

Posts in a channel appear as your channel, with its name and photo. In a group, they appear as the OmniSocials bot.

The Telegram help article covers the details, including what to do if your channel does not show up in the picker.

2. Write the post

Pick Telegram in the composer, on its own or next to your other channels. A Telegram post can be:

  • Text of up to 4,096 characters
  • One photo, one video (MP4 or MOV, up to 50 MB) or one GIF
  • An album of 2 to 10 photos and videos, mixed
  • A poll: the text of the post is the question, with 2 to 12 answers

Text is plain text. Telegram turns links, @mentions and #hashtags into links by itself, so they still work.

A long caption is no problem. Telegram allows 1,024 characters under a photo or video, so when your text is longer, OmniSocials sends the media first and the full text as a silent reply right under it. The preview in the composer shows both.

3. Set the Telegram options

Under the Telegram options you can:

  • Send silently, so subscribers get no notification sound
  • Turn the link preview on or off for text posts
  • Pin the post in the chat after it goes out (in a group, only after you make the bot an admin with the Pin messages right)
  • Protect from forwarding and saving
  • Blur the media as a spoiler until someone taps it
  • Show the text above the media
  • Add up to 3 link buttons under the post (not on albums or polls)
  • Add a first comment, sent as a silent reply under the post in the same chat

Polls can allow one or several answers and stay open until you close them, or for 1 hour up to 30 days. Telegram polls sent by OmniSocials are always anonymous.

4. Schedule it

Pick a date and time. The post shows on the calendar with everything else, and goes out to your channel or group at that time.

After it is posted, the post page shows the reactions per emoji and the votes on a poll. Analytics shows your subscriber or member count. In a group, reactions only reach OmniSocials when the bot is an admin.

Made a mistake? Delete from Telegram on the post page removes the post from your chat within 48 hours of sending. After that, Telegram only lets you delete it in the Telegram app.

Telegram limits to know before you schedule

WhatLimit
What: Text message (plain text)Limit: 4,096 characters (rich text: 32,768, for Premium users in the app and for bots since June 2026)
What: Caption under a photo, video or albumLimit: 1,024 characters (4,096 with Premium in the Telegram apps, not for bots)
What: AlbumLimit: 10 photos and videos
What: Poll questionLimit: 300 characters
What: Poll answersLimit: Up to 12, 100 characters each
What: File upload in the Telegram appLimit: 2 GB, or 4 GB with Telegram Premium
What: File upload by a botLimit: 50 MB (photos 10 MB)

Sources: the Telegram Bot API, the Telegram FAQ, Telegram's client config docs and the Rich Text Editor announcement. The bot limit is the one that counts for scheduling tools, because they post through a bot. In OmniSocials, videos and GIFs can be up to 50 MB, and photos up to 40 MB are re-encoded so they fit Telegram's 10 MB.

What OmniSocials does not do on Telegram

I would rather you know this before you connect:

  • No view counts. Telegram does not give view counts to apps that post through a bot. Views show N/A. Open the post in Telegram to see them.
  • Plain text only. No bold, italic or links behind words.
  • One chat per workspace. Each workspace posts to one Telegram channel or group. A second chat needs a second workspace.
  • No editing after posting. You can edit a scheduled post as often as you like, but not a post that is already in Telegram.
  • No Stories, no forum topics. In a group with topics, posts go to General.
  • No inbox. OmniSocials does not read Telegram messages, comments or DMs.
  • Telegram is a destination, not a source. Repost automations copy posts to Telegram, not from it.

Other tools that post to Telegram

Most big schedulers do not post to Telegram. Buffer, Hootsuite, Later, Metricool, Sprout Social, Agorapulse, SocialPilot, Sendible, Loomly and Iconosquare do not list it among their supported networks. Here are the tools that do, based on their own help pages in October 2026:

  • Publer: schedules to Telegram channels and groups. You make the Publer bot an admin and paste the chat's username or invite link. Daily post limits apply.
  • Postiz: open-source scheduler with Telegram support. Its docs walk you through creating your own bot with BotFather and adding it to your channel or group.
  • Ayrshare: a social media API for developers. You add its bot as an admin of your channel or group.
  • Zernio: a social media API for developers. Its bot needs admin rights, and it can edit published messages.

Two more mention Telegram but do not publish to it: SocialBee sends you a reminder to post on Telegram yourself, and Zoho Social connects Telegram to its inbox for messages.

Frequently asked questions

Can you schedule posts on Telegram?

Yes. In any Telegram chat, including channels and groups, hold the Send button and choose Schedule Message. That schedules one message in that one chat. To plan posts for Telegram next to your other social channels, with approvals, polls and link buttons, use a scheduling tool such as OmniSocials.

Can a Telegram bot schedule messages?

Not inside Telegram. The Telegram Bot API has no schedule option, so scheduling tools keep the post on their own servers and their bot sends it at the time you set.

What is the caption limit for Telegram posts?

A caption under a photo, video or album can be 1,024 characters. Telegram Premium raises that to 4,096 in the Telegram apps, but bots always get 1,024. OmniSocials sends a longer text as a reply right under the media, so you can still write up to 4,096 characters.

Can I schedule Telegram polls?

Yes. In OmniSocials the text of the post becomes the poll question. A poll has 2 to 12 answers, allows one or several answers, and stays open until you close it or for up to 30 days. Polls sent by OmniSocials are anonymous.

Does OmniSocials show views for Telegram posts?

No. Telegram does not give view counts to apps that post through a bot, so views show N/A. OmniSocials shows reactions per emoji, poll votes and your subscriber or member count.

Can I post to more than one Telegram channel?

Each OmniSocials workspace connects one Telegram channel or group. To post to a second chat, connect it in another workspace.
