No. Bluesky sets no hashtag count; tags only use up the post's 300 characters, and each one links up to 64 characters. Paste a post below to count its hashtags.

Planned next week in one sitting: two threads, three photo posts and a short video. #bluesky #socialmedia #contentplanning #smallbusiness
Bluesky has had hashtags since February 2024. It sets no cap on how many a post can hold: each one counts toward the 300-character limit, and a single tag links up to 64 characters. Through the API, an app can also attach up to 8 tags that do not show in the text; the Bluesky app does not use them.
Tapping a hashtag opens a menu to see its posts, see that person's posts with it, or mute it. Custom feeds can be built around a tag. Bluesky publishes nothing on hashtags and reach, and in January 2026 it said it is "exploring topic tags as a way to help people find posts".

Version 1.114 added cashtags, "Like hashtags, but for stocks", such as $AAPL. Source
Version 1.71 added a page for each hashtag, so a tap no longer jumps to search. Source
Version 1.70 added hashtags with a tap menu, plus muted words that can target tags. Source
There is no limit, but every tag costs characters. One or two that match your topic is common advice, not a Bluesky rule.
Search matches words in posts, not only tags. A clear first line helps people find the post either way.
A tag of only numbers, like #2026, does not link. Add a letter, like #Q2026, and keep it under 64 characters.
Many communities run custom feeds built on a hashtag. Using their tag can put your post in that feed.
$ plus the ticker, like $AAPL, links to other posts about that stock. It counts toward the 300 like any text.
Keep a few small sets of tags for your main topics so every post gets a fitting group without retyping.
The rules come from Bluesky's post format (the app.bsky lexicons), its open-source text parser and app, and its own announcements, read on October 17, 2026. Bluesky publishes no hashtag count and nothing on hashtags and reach, so the page claims neither. Advice on how many tags to use is labelled as advice.
