A message takes 2,000 characters, or 4,000 with Nitro in the app. Webhooks, bots and schedulers always get 2,000. Paste a message below to count it.
Checked on against 13 sources.
Season 3 starts Friday at 8 PM. One Discord message holds 2,000 characters. Nitro members can type 4,000 in the app, but webhooks, bots and schedulers stop at 2,000. Put the news in the first line. Markdown symbols and the address behind a link count toward the limit too. Full schedule: omnisocials.com
Discord caps a message at 2,000 characters. Nitro subscribers can send up to 4,000 in the app; without Nitro, a longer message turns into a text file. Webhooks and bots, which schedulers post through, get 2,000: Discord's API takes no more message text than that.
An embed adds room: its description holds 4,096 characters, and a message can carry up to 10 embeds with 6,000 characters across them. A poll takes a 300-character question and up to 10 answers of 55. OmniSocials holds Discord posts to 2,000 characters and counts most emoji as 2.
Apps can build messages from new layout components (Components V2), with up to 40 components in one message. Source
Discord began giving new usernames to people who had not picked one: lowercase, 2 to 32 characters, without the #0000 tag. Display names hold 1 to 32 characters. Source
People skim a busy channel. Say what happened or what to do first, and the details after.
Nitro's 4,000 characters only apply to what a Nitro member sends. Webhooks, bots and schedulers stop at 2,000.
Asterisks, underscores and the address behind a masked link are part of the text and count toward the 2,000.
When you post through your own webhook or bot, an embed description holds 4,096 characters, and a message can carry 6,000 across its embeds.
Each answer takes 55 characters. Short answers are easier to read and tap on a phone.
OmniSocials counts most emoji as 2 characters, so a message full of emoji reaches the limit sooner.
Each limit comes from Discord's developer docs (the message, poll, component, channel, user, webhook and guild pages) and its support articles, read on October 22, 2026. The developer docs give the limits for webhooks and bots, which schedulers use, so where the app differs (Nitro's 4,000 characters, polls of up to a week), the table shows both. Discord does not publish how it counts emoji.
