The short answer

No length limit. Files: 20 MB, up to 1 GB with Nitro.

Discord limits uploads by file size, not by length. Since August 2026 a free account can send files of up to 20 MB, up from 10 MB. Nitro Basic raises that to 50 MB and Nitro to up to 1 GB. Server Boosts raise it for everyone in one server: 50 MB at level 2 and 100 MB at level 3.

Webhooks and bots, which schedulers post through, can attach 20 MB per file by default, and a message holds up to 10 files. Discord names MP4 (H.264, HEVC or AV1) and MOV among the video files it takes. OmniSocials attaches files of up to 20 MB and sends a bigger video, up to 1 GB, as a link that Discord shows with a player.

From Discord's File Attachments FAQ, Nitro page and Server Boosting FAQ (September 2026) and its developer docs, read on October 22, 2026. The developer docs give API sizes in MiB: 20 MiB per file and up to 25 MiB for a whole message request. Discord's caps page, last edited in March 2026, still lists the older 10 MB and 500 MB limits.

What changed

What changed for Discord uploads. The free limit doubled.

  1. Sep 2026

Bots and webhooks: 20 MiB by default

Discord raised the default upload limit for users, bots, webhooks and interaction responses from 10 MiB to 20 MiB. Source

  2. Aug 2026

Free uploads doubled to 20 MB

The free upload limit went from 10 MB to 20 MB. Mobile now checks a file's size before compression, as desktop always did. Source

  3. Apr 2025

    Limits apply to each file

For apps, the size limit applies to each attachment, not to all files in a request together. Source

  4. Jan 2025

Default limit cut to 10 MiB

On January 16, 2025, Discord lowered the default upload limit from 25 MiB to 10 MiB. Source

Tips

Get your video onto Discord. Mind the size, not the length.

  1. Watch the file size, not the length

Discord sets no length limit. A long video at a high bitrate passes 20 MB long before its length matters.

  2. Export as MP4

Discord names MP4 (H.264, HEVC or AV1) and MOV among the video files it takes. Lower the bitrate or resolution to fit 20 MB.

  3. Check your server's Boost level

At level 2 every member can upload 50 MB, at level 3 100 MB, whatever their own plan. It only counts in that server.

  4. Send up to 10 files at once

One message holds 10 files. Images, GIFs and videos sent together show as a mosaic.

  5. Link what is too big

A file over the limit can go as a link. OmniSocials does this for you: a video over 20 MB goes as a link that Discord shows with a player.

  6. Schedule big videos without Nitro

OmniSocials takes videos of up to 1 GB at any length. It attaches up to 20 MB and links the rest, so nobody needs Nitro.

How we built this guide. Checked on October 22, 2026.

The limits come from Discord's support articles (File Attachments FAQ, Nitro, Server Boosting) and its developer docs and change log, read on October 22, 2026. Discord publishes size limits but no length limit for videos, and no best length, so the page shows none. Where Discord's pages disagree, the newest one counts: the caps page, last edited in March 2026, still shows 10 MB and 500 MB.
