A Pin title holds 100 characters, and Pinterest says the first 40 are the most likely to show. The description holds 800 characters, in the app and through the API. It does not appear in the home feed or search feed, but Pinterest says "Descriptions are used by our algorithm to determine relevance for delivery."
Your profile bio takes up to 500 characters and your username 3 to 30. Through the API, alt text takes 500 characters and a link 2,048. In the app you can also tag up to 10 related topics on a Pin.

It does not show in the feed, but Pinterest uses it "to determine relevance for delivery". Describe what the Pin shows and where it leads.
The most viral Pins in Tailwind's study averaged 220 to 232 characters. You do not need all 800.
Pins with alt text earned 25% more impressions in Tailwind's data, though Tailwind could not confirm the cause. Through the API, alt text takes 500 characters.
500 characters is room for who you are, what people will find on your boards and the words they search for.
You can add up to 10 related topics to a Pin. The API has no field for them, so add them in the Pinterest app if you want them.
Each limit comes from Pinterest's Help Center, its ad best practices or its API reference (version 5.28.0), read on October 17, 2026. Where Pinterest publishes no number, the table says "Not published" instead of repeating a figure from another guide. Pinterest's own pages disagree on the description limit (800 in the Pin specs and API, 500 on the ad best-practices page), so the page uses 800 and notes the other. Tailwind's figures are vendor data.
