X (Twitter) image sizes and dimensions for 2026

The header is 1500 × 500 and the profile photo 400 × 400. A single photo shows uncropped anywhere from 2:1 wide to 3:4 tall, so 1920 × 1080 and 1080 × 1350 both fit.

The short answer

Header 1500 × 500. Profile photo 400 × 400. Posts show whole from 2:1 to 3:4.

X's Help Center recommends 1500 × 500 for the header and 400 × 400 for the profile photo, in JPG, GIF or PNG, with profile photos under 2 MB. Depending on the screen, up to 60 px at the top and bottom of the header can be cropped, so keep text in the middle.

X publishes no pixel size for post photos. It says a single photo between 2:1 and 3:4 shows in full, so 1920 × 1080 (16:9), 1080 × 1350 (4:5) and 1080 × 1440 (3:4) all show uncropped. Photos can be up to 5 MB in the app and through the API that schedulers, OmniSocials included, use.

App vs schedulers

What the app allows, and what a scheduled post must fit. Schedulers publish through X's API.

Every scheduler, OmniSocials included, publishes through X's API, so the right column is what a scheduled post must fit. OmniSocials posts up to 4 images, or one video, and re-encodes video to H.264 when X needs it.
Tips

Size it once, post it anywhere. Six rules that cover most posts.

  1. Stay between 2:1 and 3:4

Inside that range a single photo shows whole in the feed. Outside it, X crops the photo.

  2. Go tall for more screen

    1080 × 1440 (3:4) is the tallest photo X shows uncropped. 1080 × 1350 (4:5) also works on Instagram.

  3. Keep files under 5 MB

Photos over 5 MB are refused, in the app and through the API. Export JPG for photos and PNG for text-heavy graphics.

  4. Center subjects in multi-photo posts

With 2 to 4 photos, X crops each one into a tile. Keep faces and text in the middle of every photo.

  5. Keep header text in the middle

Up to 60 px at the top and bottom of a 1500 × 500 header can be cut, depending on the screen. Keep logos and text in the middle band.

  6. Add a description to every photo

X takes image descriptions of up to 1,000 characters for screen readers, in the app and through the API.

How we built this guide. Checked on October 17, 2026.

Every size on this page comes from X's Help Center, X's developer docs or X's ads guide, read on October 17, 2026. X publishes no pixel size for post photos, only the 2:1 to 3:4 range that shows in full, so the per-ratio sizes are the ones X's ads guide lists or the ratio at 1,080 px wide. Where X publishes nothing (multi-photo crops), the page says so.
